Ahh yes, a true barber. Not a hairstylist from unisex salon. But a familiar name of the man who cut your hair and gave you the best shave of your life. Might have been Sal. Frank or Bob. And he knew your name as well. Right as you walked in the door you were greeted and felt instantly comfortable. The barbershop was your place; it was where you belonged. And you could always be yourself in the shop – unapologetically male.
There is a shop and a barber like that today on Magazine Street in New Orleans. The owner and head barber is no doubt refined – but he’s also a bit rogue. Cocky? Ehh, more like confident. And always honest. Most importantly, he has a passion unrivaled by anyone else in the barbershop trade. He’s a straight shooter who speaks his mind and won’t tolerate bores or BS. Quite refreshing really. His name? Aidan Gill. His shop? Aidan Gill for Men.
Once you get to know him, over time, you’ll feel he’s got your back. And, truth be told, he really does. Because he’s the man who’s responsible for... More

Aux Belles Choses brings to you "beautiful things" from the French and English countryside. In their trips to France and England the owners search for "belles choses" for the home and garden, both old and new, finding these treasures in the flea markets, brocante shops and small ateliers. In 1991, sisters Bettye Barrios and Anne Barrios Gauthier opened Aux Belles Choses on Magazine Street in New Orleans. After years of traveling and shopping in Europe, they finally ran out of space to put anything else in their own homes! Their philosophy is still--buy what you love. This includes a wide variety of hand picked European and European-inspired items for the home. The shop has been featured in such national magazines as Food and Wine, Country Home, Domino and Better Homes and Gardens Decorating, and included in many lists of the best places to shop in New Orleans. Visit the shop when in New Orleans, or shop online for some of the shop's favorites, such as French soaps, provencal table linens, French jacquard... More

Dashka Roth moved from southern California to New Orleans in 1978, and opened La Petite Jewellerie on Toulouse Street in the French Quarter in 1979. Ten years later she opened Dashka Roth Contemporary Art on Magazine Street, and 1-1/2 years later made a move uptown to a smaller shop on Magazine St. where she continued as Dashka Roth Contemporary Jewelry. In 1994 she moved to her current location on Chartres Street where, as a survivor of Hurricane Katrina she renovated the building, and began living above the gallery with her husband, in the same space that his grandparents occupied over a half-century ago. Five years later, they moved out of the Quarter into their current home just a few miles from downtown New Orleans.

Nature is God's blueprint, and since time immemorial humanity has sought union with God and Goddess through the God and Goddess' creation: Nature.

Fleurty Girl was born out of a vision of New Orleans-native, Lauren Thom. Using just $2,000 from her 2009 tax return, this single mother of three put everything she had into printing t-shirts that celebrated New Orleans. Just six months after launching her online store, she opened her first retail store on historic Oak Street and moved her and her family in the back of the old shotgun house. "We all crammed in the back of that house in order to see if this would work. We went from 2,000 square feet to just under 1,000. My kids went from each having their own rooms to having to all share one room together. People said I was crazy, but I believed in this."
Today, Lauren now has four Fleurty Girl retail stores and has gotten her kids back to having their own rooms again. "I'm glad I was able to show them what it takes to believe in something, make sacrifices and succeed, and to do it all in the most amazing city in the world."
