We are a family business that has been around since 1954. We are not your ordinary toy store. You should not walk in expecting to see what you would in a big-box-store, instead when you step into our shop prepare to take a treck down memory lane.

"The kitchen in my first cottage had been redone in a 50's style and I found a dinette set from the same era that matched it perfectly. My appreciation for Mid-century design grew as I learned of its contribution to the fields of design, industry and culture. I began to educate myself to recognize the best of mid-century furniture and design. I discovered some surprisingly good pieces in the area and collected them... and then I collected some more. Looking back, I think I was on my way to becoming a hoarder! Over time, my knowledge grew with experience. I left my job in 2002 to work full-time in my passion. I started with a space at an antique mall and have been growing ever since.

Since 1997, we have been hand-weaving high quality rag rugs on 3 looms in our workshop in New Orleans' French Quarter. While traditionally made of old clothes, sheets, etc., our rugs are made from new fabric and thread, though the construction method remains the same. While our shop always has many rugs of varying sizes available for purchase, most of our work is custom work. Our store is run by the husband and wife team of Michael and Basi Carbine. The Carbines have been in the antique business for the last 20 years and have developed a passion for 18th and 19th century pieces, particularly furnishings, chandeliers, sconces, architectural pieces and lighting from France and Italy. mac MAISON Ltd. carries European antiques almost exclusively, and the Carbines make several trips to Europe each year to collect rare, unique pieces.

I named my store "Mes Amis Quilt Shop" as it translates to "My Friends Quilt Shop", because that is what I hope it to be. A place where friends, who just happen to quilt, come together to "sit and sew" and catch up on old times or plan the next event, maybe even learn a new block pattern. Quilting is synonymous with friendship. I have met many wonderful people through quilting and looking forward to meeting many more at my shop.

MIGNON FAGET is driven to design jewelry derived from natural and architectural forms found in her native New Orleans environment.

The owner and bicycle mechanic, Mike, was born and raised in New Orleans. He first began working as a bicycle mechanic in 1989 at the Bikesmith on Freret Street. It was the largest bike shop in New Orleans at the time. He worked at the Bikesmith for seven years and earned the title of “master mechanic”. After a stint in the Navy, he returned to New Orleans and worked for GNO Cyclery for 14 years as their head mechanic. Mike needed to spread his wings and in 2008 mikethebikeguy, llc opened its doors the week of Hurricane Gustav. Shortly after opening, Shane joined the team. Shane first started working on bicycles in 1990 and worked alongside Mike at many of the same shops. With over 20 years of bicycle repair experience apiece, these two know everything there is to know about getting your bike riding smoothly.

Those two young women who financed their 1978 vacation to the Far East by returning home with goods to sell at a trunk show now own and operate the multi-channeled business known as Orient Expressed. Today, the retail store feels like an old world bazaar which features antiques, porcelain, Santos, home accessories, jewelry, gifts, AND the uniquely designed Orient Expressed line of hand-smocked children's clothing. Begun when their own children were born in the early 1980's, the clothing collection has been loved, guided, nurtured, and coddled, along with the children of Orient Expressed. We began our business in 2001 at the French Market in New Orleans. In conjunction with the seven day a week market we also attended many festivals around the country and met many wonderful clients and friends along the way. It was in 2007 that we felt it a good time to put a permanent roof over our heads and opened our shop at 842 Royal Street.
